Remove PDF Metadata
Clear common PDF metadata, including author, title, dates, and document-level XMP, locally in your browser. Your file is not uploaded.
Your files stay on your device. Processing happens locally in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
How to remove metadata from a PDF
- Select your PDF — drag it into the drop zone or click to browse.
- Review which metadata fields the tool will strip.
- Run the cleanup on your device.
- Download the cleaned PDF.
Why local processing?
Remove PDF Metadata processes your file inside your browser, on your own device. Your document is not uploaded to our servers. The browser may download code needed to run the tool, but those requests do not contain your file.
Check it yourself: open your browser’s network tab while a file is being processed — your document never appears in any request.
Frequently asked questions
- Is my file uploaded so the metadata can be removed?
- No. That would defeat the point: the cleanup runs in your browser, where your PDF is opened and re-saved locally — the network tab shows no request carrying your file while it happens.
- Is there a maximum file size?
- Each file can be up to 200 MB. Processing happens in your browser and also depends on available memory. Large or complex files may be slow or exceed your device’s resources even below this limit.
- Does this help with GDPR concerns?
- In two ways: the metadata cleanup itself reduces personal traces in the file, and the processing involves no server-side step — the document never leaves your device.
- Which metadata is removed?
- The standard document information fields — title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer, and the creation/modification dates — plus the document-level XMP metadata stream.
- Does clearing PDF metadata change the visible pages?
- The tool clears document information fields and removes the document-level XMP metadata entry without editing page content. It saves a new PDF; your original file stays unchanged. Names or other personal information visible on pages are not removed.
- Can I delete just the author or change the title?
- This tool clears the common document metadata together. Use Edit Metadata if you want to set or clear individual fields such as the author or title.
- Is everything identifying gone afterwards?
- Not necessarily. Object-level or vendor-specific metadata deeper in the file structure is not edited, and content on the pages themselves (names, headers, scanned signatures) is untouched. This is a metadata tool, not a redaction tool.
