PDF to Word

Extract the text layer of a born-digital PDF into an editable Word document locally in your browser. For scanned PDFs, use Scanned PDF to Word.

Your files stay on your device. Processing happens locally in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

How it works

  1. Select a text-based PDF — drag it into the drop zone or click to browse.
  2. Choose an export mode; the default combines each page image with editable text.
  3. Convert — the existing text layer is extracted, no OCR involved.
  4. Download the .docx and continue editing in Word.

Why local processing?

PDF to Word processes your file inside your browser, on your own device. Your document is not uploaded to our servers. The browser may download code needed to run the tool, but those requests do not contain your file.

Check it yourself: open your browser’s network tab while a file is being processed — your document never appears in any request.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded to produce the Word file?
No. The text layer is read and the .docx is built entirely in your browser. Keep the network tab open during a conversion if you want certainty — no request contains your document.
What file size can it handle?
Each file can be up to 200 MB. Processing happens in your browser and also depends on available memory. Large or complex files may be slow or exceed your device’s resources even below this limit.
Is it appropriate for GDPR-sensitive contracts?
The conversion involves no server-side component whatsoever, so the contract is never transmitted, stored, or seen by anything outside your browser.
Does it work on scanned PDFs?
No — this tool reads the PDF’s existing text layer and never runs OCR. If your PDF is a scan, it refuses and points you to Scanned PDF to Word, which is built for that.
How faithful is the layout?
Headings, paragraphs, simple lists, two-column text, and simple tables are reconstructed; complex tables, forms, and intricate designs are not. The default mode embeds each page as an image alongside the text, so you always have the original look for reference.
Are tables converted?
Only simple, clearly gridded tables become real Word tables. Anything ambiguous — merged cells, wrapped multi-line cells — stays as plain paragraphs on purpose, to avoid corrupting your data.
